There are many methods the government could use to
discourage the use of private cars in the centre of the city, the two I
consider most important are the investment in public transport and educating
people about the environment.
If the government would invest more in public transport,
make it more pleasant for people, safer, probably more people would use it. Not
only by improving it, but by putting bikes, decent bikes, for people to use and
feel safe on; making bike lanes in the city would also make it much safer for
both, the people on the bikes and the pedestrians.
Educating people, children is also very important, making
them conscious of how the use of cars is damaging the environment and of how it
contributes to pollution. Telling and teaching people about how it also damages
our home, earth, and the health of every other living creatures. Beginning with
teaching kids, that influence their parents, that grow to be adults, would be a
good step.
This is what I think is correct and that will be most
effective. If I think about what would make me use the car less, these things
would pop-up in my head. Every government, including ours, is capable of making
the world a better place.
